POE adaptor

Description

Thanks to the POE/Ethernet base, you can live stream 360° videos using your internet network with a continuous power supply. This accessory is especially used for video surveillance and event live streaming.

What you will need

  • One 360cam
  • One POE injector – Here is a model that we recommend: TL-POE150S from TP-LINK
  • Two Ethernet cables
  • One Laptop
  • One DHCP router
  • VLC player installed on your machine

Use cases

Our POE adaptor can be used in multiple ways. In this tutorial will show you how to use your POE base over YouTube, Wowza and also on your local network or by directly connecting the POE injector to your computer.

Streaming over your local network

Here are the steps to follow in order to stream over your local network:

  • Power ON your POE injector
  • Connect the “IN” side of your POE injector to your DHCP router using an ethernet cable
  • Put the switch of your 360cam POE base to the “DHCP” position

  • Attach the POE base to the camera

You can now connect your POE base to the “POWER+DATA OUT” plug of your POE injector using an ethernet cable. The following should happen:

  1. The 360cam will display “360” on its LED screen.
  2. You will then see a blinking “Live”
  3. The LED screen will eventually display an IP address – MAKE SURE to write it down

At the this stage of the tutorial, the LED screen of the camera should display a steady “Live”

Now open your VLC application, go to “File” and select “New Network…”

Enter the following URL:

rtsp://IP_ADDRESS:8557/PSIA/Streaming/channels/2?videoCodecType=H.264

The IP_ADDRESS should be the one you wrote down earlier in this tutorial. It is the one that was displayed on the 360cam’s LED screen.

Make sure that there is no space at the end of your URL

Click on “Open” and you will see your stream!

Stream directly to your computer

In the second tutorial we will show you how to stream directly on your computer. For this configuration you will first need to put the switch of your 360cam POE base to the “Static IP” position as shown below:

You will then have to wire your POE injector as shown in the picture below:

  • Connect the “IN” side of your POE injector to your computer
  • Connect your POE base to the “POWER+DATA OUT” connector of your POE injector

Once the 360cam has been powered ON, the following will happen:

  1. The 360cam will display “360” on its LED screen.
  2. You will then see a blinking “Live”
  3. The LED screen will eventually display 192.168.1.168

If your camera did not display 192.168.1.168 make sure the switch of your POE base is in “Static IP” and not “DHCP”

Once the LED display is showing a steady “Live”, open you network preference and select the one that created by your POE injector. Under “Configure IPv4” select “Manually”

In the field “IP Adress” enter an IP address that has the same prefix as the camera: 192.168.1.XXX. For this tutorial I used 192.168.1.10

Click on “Apply” to confirm the changes

Now open your VLC application, go to “File” and select “New Network…”

Enter the following URL:

rtsp://192.168.1.168:8557/PSIA/Streaming/channels/2?videoCodecType=H.264

Make sure there is no space at the end of your URL

Click on “Open” and you will see your stream!
